For my Digital Video and Sound Technology course, I took on the challenge of raising awareness about kidney health, with a little help from Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and a stressed-out university student protagonist who just really needed to go to a health screening.
Project at a Glance
In Assignment 1, I developed the narrative and animatics storyboard for a kidney health PSA, centering on a university student whose abdominal discomfort (and chaotic deadlines) leads her to a screening event. Humour meets health in a storyline that aims to both inform and entertain.
Production Magic - Assignment 2
The final PSA blended narrative and technical flair:
Use Premiere Pro + After Effects with dynamic linking for seamless workflow
Shot variety: establishing, close-ups, extreme close-ups, even green screen work
Applied VFX: dissolves, blurs, zooms, particles, and CC slants for mood and motion
Audio ducking layered dialogue, sound effects, and music like a pro
Final export: smooth, clean H.264 quality because kidneys deserve crisp visuals too
Exercises Included
Exercise 1: Created a 2D animatic from storyboard stills using basic transitions (zoom, page flip, etc.)
Exercise 2: Supercharged version with masking, rotoscoping, green screen effects and layered sound
This project was not just about editing. It was about crafting a meaningful message with a visual punch. And maybe making you think twice about skipping that free health screening.
